As this important month comes to a close, those who continue writing the history of Black America continue to shine here and around the world. In our microcosm of travel, events and meetings, it is important to highlight our multi-faceted industry successes with a focus on those leading the way as diversity continues to grow in every aspect of our industry.
Major hotels companies like Hyatt have committed to and delivered on growing the number of diverse suppliers and vendors. For example, prior to 2022, Hyatt went from a count of only 42 vendors that were categorized as diverse in 2020 to over 500 this past year! From Marrakesh to Maryland and beyond, these hoteliers have set the bar high for a unique experience with a distinct point outside of the big box brands.
Airlines have been flying high as well, most recently with British Airways celebrating this month with an all Black crew for the first time ever. American Airlines achieved a similar milestone with all-Black female crew back in August of last year.
Each of these contributions and those that happen everyday continue to shine the light on hospitality, service and caring, the cornerstone of our vast industry. Diversity in thought, culture, background and experience can only enhance and invigorate our vibrant community that we are honored to be a part of.
